Latest news on Stevia approval

The latest news today: "Global leading food safety experts, including the European Food Safety Authority, have established that steviol glycosides are safe for all populations to consume and are a suitable sweetening option for people with diabetes. Carl Horn, president of the International Stevia Council, said: “Today’s vote of the Standing Committee on the authorisation of the use of steviol glycosides in foods and drinks brings this calorie-free naturally sourced sweetness one step closer to all consumers in Europe, not just those in France, where steviol glycosides were approved for use in food nearly two years ago.” The next step in the regulatory process for steviol glycosides is scrutiny of the regulation by the European Parliament. http://www.foodbev.com/news/stevia-council-welcomes-approval-of-stev...

Refreshing peppermint tea jelly – with delightful health benefits for digestion.

Refreshing peppermint tea jelly – with delightful health benefits for digestion.

Jelly in my belly; why not create a spoon-able jelly desert with your favourite teas? A cooled peppermint tea jelly makes a tasty refreshing alternative to the heavy cream laden summer dessert – not quite the same as ice cream (my personal obsession) but definitely a light, refreshing not guilt involved treat option thanks to no added sugar version sweetened with natural sweetener stevia-sweet. Did you know that Peppermint tea has a large range of health benefiting properties? Since I drink quite a bit of peppermint tea hot or cold sweetened with stevia-sweet tabs, I though I should find out a bit more about this popular flavour used in so many products from chewing gum to toothpaste. It is interesting that number of studies support the use of peppermint for indigestion and irritable bowel syndrome – is that why I feel relaxed and calm when drinking this tea? Peppermint is said to have a calming effect on the muscles of the stomach and...

Sweet, fragrant elderflower milk & elderflower fritters – sugar free

Luxurious elderflower milk drink that boasts a subtle, sweet scent and light sweetness with a little help of stevia-sweet fluid, it’s a perfect elderflower treat you can make in 2 minutes. Yesterday, I finally managed to get organised enough to collect some elderflowers on my Sunday countryside exploration. I love going and collection free natural foods on walks it’s like Easter egg hunting, looking out for edible treats. What got me really exited was finding some wild raspberries, which sweetened my excursion greatly. – I do have 4 little raspberry plants in my front garden, every morning I get a little bowl full collected by my husband, he doesn’t really like them but he loves getting them in for me and looking out for more newly ripened ones. You really can’t beat the experience of gathering something that nature provided, so much better than the supermarket "have it all when ever you like" version; it just makes everything more special. You probably...

Sugar free Quark Waffles with Stevia

Sugar free Quark Waffles with Stevia

Fluffy, light, crunchy - just the way a waffle should be - bring a bit of Europe to your Easter afternoon tea. I loved waffles as a child– especially the heart shaped ones. When I was little, we sadly only had a square shaped one at home, square is just not the same – it so grown up and strict. Heart shapes are playful, cute and you can rip them out one by one – so when I set up my own home a heart shaped waffle iron was a must. Waffles are great Easter celebration treats, they are quickly made and everyone can add their favourite topping – ice cream would be my first choice. I loooooove ice cream. I often make them for Sunday breakfast; it takes me back to a time when things were easy… Since I like to eat healthy and sugar free, the recipe I use has changed since my childhood. I now make a lighter version using...
